What Fun Educational Apps Liked!
The Pirate Koostoe is first a beautiful story with a wonderful message about moral and values that teaches our kids that sometimes what you want the most can be just around the corner!
It is a top quality storybook app for iPad and offers all the prerequisites to be classified as Best App for kids. It presents top quality animated illustration and artwork, touch-and teach interactive elements to increase vocabulary, and text highlights to support and develop early reading skills. It can be read 3 ways: “read-to-me”, “read-to-myself”, and “auto-play” a feature that we always like.
The kids at Fun Educational Apps really liked the story and found the illustrations, animations and interactive features splendid. They also enjoyed the open ended questions at the end of the book apps. It allowed them to think about the story and its message and to made them think about the future and what they would like to be. We had a nice discussion.
With this first storybook app for iPad, Midlandia Press goal was “to get children excited about reading … by offering creative and innovative products … that have high standards of quality for the stories and the illustrations." I would say mission accomplished!
Overall, The Pirate Koostoe is an impressive storybook app: great story, illustration, custom music. It engages the kids and teaches a great lesson. It offers the right amount of interactive features; just enough to keep the kids engaged without distracting them from the story … well I could go on .. but highly recommend that you check it out.

Pirate Koostoe is an interactive storybook app which will entertain young children while letting them learn some things along the way. The story itself also imparts some life values which they can easily pick up. Parents can also join in the storybook app experience by talking with their children about the “questions for discussion” found at the end of the story.

There is an endless number of children’s storybook apps for the iPad, and adding another to my arsenal on our device always takes some thinking. But when I was asked to review The Pirate Koostoe, I jumped at the chance. It just looked great. Thankfully it lived up to my expectations.
The Pirate Koostoe is not the most “interactive” storybook for kids with movable objects everywhere on every page, but it sure does a great job of animating the elements and telling a great story, and making it interesting as well. This is nice, as sometimes all that interaction really takes away from the story, and in fact would have does so here. The artwork is wonderful, the music is perfect, and the narration (if you choose to use it) is spot on. The app offers a lot in terms of education too. It has the touch words/objects to help with vocabulary, and text highlighting to encourage the learning of reading skills. And even better, there are end-of-story discussion questions for young readers to talk about what they’ve read and learned.
The story is of a little Midlandian with a dream to become a pirate and find treasure. It’s not as easy as he thinks, and being a pirate isn’t all its cracked up to be. Along his journey Koostoe learns a valuable lesson, that not all treasures are riches and gold…that sometimes the greatest treasures are right in front of us.
The Pirate Koostoe is a top app in the children’s storybook genre. It is amazingly well produced, and offers a little bit of everything for children. My kids can’t wait to find out more about these Midlandian’s, and as a parent I’m 100% comfortable letting them enjoy this new world.

Ahh to be a child again, wishing for adventure, imagining the life of an astronaut, a ballerina or a pirate. Little Koostoe (pronounced like the famous ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau) wants to be a pirate, too.
Join him as he goes on his own adventure and learns what it is like to find real treasure in this interactive children’s book.
The app acts less like a book and more like an animated story as each page seems to come to life. The angle of each image changes as the story progresses. Some pages will zoom out to show a full shot of the story’s action. Others will have additional animation that can be discovered when tapped.
The story itself is what makes the book so special. It is original and interesting without being awkward or overdone. It is the perfect story for young ones who like adventure. The moral is easy to understand and important for life.
